My name is Larry V. Dykstra.
I am an author.
It has taken me time to claim that title. I think the delay was because I
never intended to be an author, nor did I have the formal training to
become one. But after writing and publishing four books I now
recognize that being an author is central to my identity.
Upon my retirement, I sought experiences that would challenge me and
open my eyes to worlds all around me. I pursued writing as a way
unpack deeper meaning from my experiences. Along the way, I
discovered along it was through our personal stories that we come to
understand that each of us is unique, and we all have much in common.
The common thread woven through my four books is the realization that
life is a journey where the basic skills we learn as children and the big
careers we build as adults eventually give way to the deeper
requirements of legacy. As the years pass, the metrics of success must
evolve from "what I do" to "how I serve."
During the weeks and months ahead, I will be sharing stories here that I
hope will bring specifics to these broad themes. Stay tuned.
